We took bare necessities on this trip as well. This year weather is very wrong! It is hot and stormy below the 200m mark and still snowing in the passes!! Added to that, this year is slated to see the record melting of Glaciers in Himachal Pradesh. Very, very woerd and sad.
This trek is a very popular passage for the locals to visit the holy Lam Dal (Second largest lake in HImachal) and to cross over into Chamba.
We did this trek in a total of 4 days as there was so mauch snow on the Chamba side, we had to keep walking to find a decent camp site and ended up walking for ten hours and hence we had to skip one camp site altogether.

Great blog coverage of this trek. I did this trek back in 1992. In those days Minkiani used to have lot of snow and the area surrounding kareri lake had decent presence of vegetation and tree cover.
I was searching for other peoples experience of Minkiani pass trek and yours are very few and the best blogs I could find. Thanks for sharing. I would like to see more of pictures if you may have uploaded any by any chance :)
Cheers,

Crossed Minkiani Pass in 2007. Started from Mc Leod and stayed first night at Noli. Spent the next day at Lake Kareri before crossing and walking thru to Darkund.
Spent the night there with a beautiful local family. The following day we proceeded to the trail head at Dunali where we caught a bus to Chamba. Magnificent area, stunning views and warm and friendly people.
The memories will be with me always.

Splendid portrayal. The majestic mountains make one feel like a baby in mothers arms.
